How to make Crispy BBQ Brussels Sprouts

instructions

Brussels sprouts- Brussels sprouts are part of the cruciferous vegetables family. They contain high amounts of vitamin C and K. Brussels sprouts also contain some folate, which is important for neural tube development.

Olive oil- Olive oil is particularly high in monounsaturated fats, and contains omega-6 and omega-3, all healthy fats that contribute to a healthy heart.

Garlic Powder- Garlic powder is a versatile ingredient that is commonly used in cooking to add flavor and aroma to dishes. It is made from dehydrated and ground garlic cloves, which retain many of the health benefits associated with fresh garlic. Some of the nutritional benefits of garlic powder include: rich in antioxidants, may improve heart health (reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol), may boost the immune system and have anti-inflammatory effects

1. Wash and cut the Brussels sprouts into halves (if not already pre-cut)
2. Dry the Brussels sprouts well
3. Toss the Brussels sprouts into a pan or bowl
4. Season with your favorite BBQ rub and garlic powder
5. Spray a small amount of olive oil onto the Brussels sprouts
6. Pour Brussels sprouts into air-fryer or roasting pan Pro tip: use a (cook-safe) liner for your air fryer or roasting pan for easy and quick clean-up
7. Air fry at 375 degrees F for 12 minutes/Roast at 350 for 40 minutes or until they reach a crispy texture
8. Serve warm and enjoy!

storing tips

There are a few reasons why we love crispy BBQ Brussels sprouts. One reason is the combination of flavors and textures in the dish. Brussels sprouts are a vegetable that have a naturally earthy and slightly bitter taste, which can be balanced out by the sweetness and smokiness of a BBQ sauce. When cooked until crispy, the outside of the Brussels sprouts becomes slightly charred, which adds an additional layer of flavor and a satisfying crunch.

Another reason we enjoy this dish is the cooking method. Air-frying or roasting Brussels sprouts at a high temperature allows them to caramelize and become crispy, which can enhance their natural sweetness and make them more appealing to some people.

These Crispy BBQ Brussels Sprouts can be served in a variety of ways, making it a versatile staple to keep on hand. Serve it as a side dish, an appetizer or a late-afternoon snack. Since it requires very minimal prep work, it can easily be thrown together at anytime!

To make the prep work eveneasier, you can purchase pre-cut, pre-washed brussels sprouts at your grocery store. Pair this with your favorite pre-made BBQ seasoning (we love BBQ 101 Seasoning Blend from Trader Joes) to make these extra flavorful.

While these are best enjoyed fresh and hot, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the air-fryer or oven to be enjoyed again at a later time.

cooking methods

Our preferred method is to air-fry them, but if you don't have an air-fryer, you can roast them in the oven to still give them the crispy, caramelized texture
